Principal, Dunbar Elementary School

In my 31 years in education, this is one of the most exciting programs in which I have been involved. Already I have teachers coming up to me asking when they can be trained, get involved, be part of the GLPP model, etc.

Schools need many kinds of teaching, many kinds of technology tools, and many kinds of practices to ensure all students are at grade level in reading and math by the third grade. The Grade Level Proficiency Project is the model to get us there. I am grateful beyond measure for the support and opportunity to reach this goal.

Principal's Update

March 2015

Student learning is our mission at Dunbar.  Supporting the whole child is our core value.  “Every child can succeed” is Dunbar’s core belief.  We need to prepare students for 21st century learning.  The Grade Level Proficiency Project or GLPP does all that; GLPP supports student learning, makes learning fun and validates our belief  that every child can succeed.

Each child is demonstrating achievement gains in language arts and math employing 21st century techniques that infuse technology into teaching and learning.  Quantitative and qualitative data validate our model.  Students are building a strong academic foundation for future learning.  Most of all, students are learning that learning can be fun. We would love to share our experience with you. Come out to Dunbar and see GLPP at work.

Marian and Terry, I just wanted to let you know how pleased I am to have your support and that of the GLPP. Today at conferences I was able to provide parents with information about our current programs with the confidence that we are doing all we can to best support the students growth in math, reading, spelling and more! The programs we have in place are current, research based, CCSS aligned and at each students level. As a parent I couldn't ask for more and as a teacher I am thrilled to have these in place. With great excitement I told parents of the Lexia program and shared hopes of the students making great growth in the coming months. There is one student I am considering retaining but told the parents that we have so much in place to support him that I will hold off until May and check his progress at that point and make a recommendation at that time; without these programs in place I may have asked the parents today to sign a retention form, fearing that we "only have two months of school left"; now I feel like we have two months left and so much to gain in a short time rather than running on short time. So, thank you, thank you.

Since fall it has been a great pleasure to have the support of the GLPP and Marian and Terry in our classrooms. Without classroom aides, this support has become vital to student learning. Students really enjoy being able to access academics through the use of iPads. The iPads allow for students to work at their own level creating an individualized learning experience like no other. With Common Core State Standards coming into place I feel Dream Box, Lexia, and Spelling City are challenging my students and helping them prepare for what is to come. I see my students working harder, thinking deeper, and persevering. I speak for my team when I say we are beyond grateful for this opportunity and thrilled it will continue into the coming years.

I just want to take a minute and thank you both for all the work that you are doing to support all the students and teachers at Dunbar. I am sitting here at home shocked that you have not only already helped register me for Spelling City, but that my students are already registered. Thank you so much!

Principal, Sassarini Elementary School

At Sassarini, we believe in providing each child with a safe, caring environment; a rigorous and engaging curriculum; and experiences that foster creativity, exploration, and a love of learning.  We believe every child deserves a chance to reach their full potential, and thus we provide high levels of challenge and support.  We are proud of our school and excited about the many new programs we have put in place this year to support our students.

The Grade Level Proficiency Project has allowed for more collaboration to take place between teachers.  The vertical and horizontal alignment is becoming more evident through this process.  Teachers are beginning to look through data, and offer many opportunities to support their below basic, basic, proficient and advanced students.  The coaching in the classroom has been crucial with the launch of GLPP.  We are ecstatic to have the coaches on-site, and the instructional aides who are supporting the work.  Our students are showing great strides and we are excited to share with the wider community.

Lexia and DreamBox both offer the benefit of immediate data and feedback which I can use to work with my students, one on one, and truly differentiate their instruction. I like that I am able to see exactly where my students are struggling and work with them on that concept to move them forward.

Kevin Kassebaum
Principal, Sonoma Charter School

March 2015

This is the first year of implementing the Grade Level Proficiency Project (GLPP) at Sonoma Charter School.  The mission of Sonoma Charter School is academic excellence through engaged learning and the GLPP supports our mission.   Our staff, students and parents are excited about this program as we have received positive input from all three groups.

Since our implementation in November, 2014 we have experienced measurable student progress at every grade level.  The combination of blended learning with a computer adaptive format addresses the needs of learners regardless of their background or ability level.   The coaching provided for our staff also increases our capacity to address the needs of our diverse population.  We will continue to offer this program as the student assessment data speaks for itself.  The GLPP works! We are truly appreciative on many levels to be able to offer this program to our students.

I am thrilled to be using Lexia and Dream Box with my K/1 students this year!

I love that they are all able to be challenged at their own individual pace and levels in

both Math and Language Arts.  The reports available to me as a teacher are excellent

and very detailed down to very specific skills.  All of my students have shown significant

progress, and some have made gains of up to a whole grade level!

GLPP has helped me as a teacher by providing enrichment and intervention support for my students. The programs meet students at their level and provide engaging, interactive and challenging lessons that help bring them to the next level. My students are excited about their achievements and motivated to meet their goals with Lexia and Dreambox. Earning certificates and taking them home to show off to their family are highlights for many students during the week. As a teacher I would highly recommend implementing GLPP into the classroom!
